The following is a list of upcoming productions and auditions in the Fairfax-Loudoun area: Productions - 'Secrets of a Soccer Mom.' The Elden Street Players present “Secrets of a Soccer Mom,” a comedy by Kathleen Clark, through Nov. 15 at The Industrial Strength Theater, 269 Sunset Park Drive in Herndon. Remaining performances are at 8 p.m. Oct. Oct. 31, Nov. 1, Nov. 7-8 and Nov. 13-15; also Nov. 2 at 3 p.m. and Nov. 9 at 7 p.m.

This production is directed by Bruce Follmer and produced by Gina Gabay.

'Over the River.' Tickets are on sale for the Vienna Theatre Company's production of the comedy “Over the River and Through the Woods” at the Vienna Community Center, 120 Cherry St.

Remaining performances are Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 at 8 p.m., and Nov. 2 at 1 p.m.

Tickets are $10, senior citizens 65 and older and students $9.

'PetPourri.' Springfield Community Theatre announces the first production in its 2008-2009 season and the premiere of a new musical, “PetPourri,” by Andrea Dodds and Deborah Wicks La Puma.

Remaining performances are Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 at 8 p.m.; and a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. Nov. 2. Performances are at a new location, The John Swazy Theatre at The New School of Northern Virginia, 9431 Silver King Court in Fairfax.

Ballet Flamenco Jose Porcel. George Mason University Center for the Arts welcomes back Ballet Flamenco Jose Porcel, Friday, Oct. 31, at 8 p.m., and Saturday, Nov. 1, at 8 p.m., with an explosion of rhythms, colors and emotions by Spain’s pre-eminent company of dancers, musicians and singers. All Souls Day Concert. The Saint Luke Festival Choir will perform the Rutter “Requiem” and Barber's “Adagio for Strings” Sunday, Nov. 2, at 4 p.m. The performance, at St. Luke Catholic Church in McLean, honors “loved ones who have gone before us.”

The program -- with Paul Skevington, artistic director, and Cheryl Branham, conductor -- features choir, organ, cello, oboe, flute and harp.

‘Comedy of Errors.’ The British/American Aquila Theatre Company returns to George Mason University’s Center for the Arts with an imaginative and exuberant production of Shakespeare’s classic farce, “The Comedy of Errors,” on Friday, Nov. 7, at 8 p.m.

Hubbard Street Dance Chicago. Hubbard Street Dance Chicago performs at George Mason University’s Center for the Arts Saturday, Nov. 8, at 8 p.m.

The company, described as spicy and lively, is renowned for its humor and versatility, with its 20 dancers trained in a variety of styles from jazz to ballet to modern.

Amadeus Virtuosi concert. The Amadeus Virtuosi, with A. Scott conducting and soprano Jessica Swink, presents “A Sylvan Landscape” on Sunday, Nov. 9, at 4 p.m. at St. Francis Episcopal Church, 9220 Georgetown Pike, Great Falls.

The Virtuosi and Swink will perform Britten's “Simple Symphony,” Ravel's “Introduction” and “Allegro” and vocal music by Handel.

For last year's debut performance of the Amadeus Virtuosi, there was a standing-room-only audience.

Band Boosters benefit folk music concert. South Lakes High School Band Boosters present folk singer and songwriter John McCutcheon in a fundraising concert Nov. 9 at SLHS’s Little Theater, South Lakes Drive, Reston. McCutcheon is a master of a dozen traditional instruments, including the hammer dulcimer.

The SLHS band is working to raise funds for its trip to a Carnegie Hall competition in New York City.

'Flowers for Algernon.' The Sterling Playmakers are offering "Flowers for Algernon" in November, with a plot centering around a scientific study involving a man, a mouse and an experiment.

Performances are Nov. 7-8 and Nov. 14-15 at 8 p.m., and Nov. 9 and Nov. 16 at 2 p.m. All performances are at the Sterling Middle School on Holly Avenue in Sterling.

In the play, two scientists (Kevin Robertson, Joe Campanella) have developed a medical procedure that can increase intelligence. The tests have worked on a mouse; now they're ready to try it on a human being. The perfect subject seems to be a mentally challenged man named Charlie Gordon (Justin Fox).

Also in the cast are Sara Bickler, Ellen Cranley, Herbert DuVall, Tina Esfarjani, Corinne Fox, Herb Fuller, David Grimm, S Paul Long, Beth Robertson, Meg Roosma, Scott Ruegg, Ty Sheedlo, Melisande Smith, Terry Smith, Anika Steenstra, Joao Versos, James Wood and Jenny Wood.

"Flowers for Algernon" is based on the short story and novel by Daniel Keyes. It won the Hugo and Nebula awards for science fiction writing. The family-friendly play is produced by James Wood and directed by Terry Nelson DiMurro.

Kirov Orchestra at GMU: The Kirov Orchestra, under the baton of conductor Valery Gergiev, performs at George Mason University’s Center for the Arts Friday, Nov. 14, at 8 p.m.

The program includes Prokofiev’s “Cinderella Suite No. 3, op. 109,” and Act III from “Romeo and Juliet,” as well as a Beethoven “Piano Concerto No. 4,” featuring Alexei Volodin as piano soloist.

Doc Severinsen at GMU. Legendary trumpeter Doc Severinsen, best known as the band leader on “The Tonight Show” with Johnny Carson, performs at the George Mason University Center for the Arts on Saturday, Nov. 15, at 8 p.m. He will perform with classical guitarist Gil Gutierrez, violinist Pedro Cartas, and percussionist Luis Conte in a new program, “El Ritmo de la Vida” or “The Rhythm of Life.

The program features classical Spanish music with a jazz flair, American and Latino ballads, and music from films. A discussion, free to ticket holders, begins 45 minutes prior to the performance on the center’s Grand Tier III.

‘Music in McLean.’ The "Music in McLean" concert series will present two concerts in November. Both are at Saint Luke Catholic Church, 7001 Georgetown Pike.

Theater anniversary. Springfield Community Theatre will celebrate its 50th anniversary the evening of Friday, Nov. 21, at the Springfield Country Club on Old Keene Mill Road.

This event will include food, entertainment, pictures and memorabilia from past SCT productions, door prizes and a silent auction.

Community Chorus. The Nova Community Chorus announces its rehearsals are open to all interested singers for its fall season.

Master Singers. The Master Singers of Virginia, directed by Erik Reid Jones, are looking for new members.

The group is one of the premier a cappella choral ensembles in Northern Virginia, concentrating on 20th- and 21st-century choral music. The Master Singers perform three major concert programs each season, as well as other engagements throughout Northern Virginia and the greater Washington, D.C., area. This will be the Master Singers' 14th season.

The concert series scheduled for this season includes Benjamin Britten's "A Boy Was Born," Francis Poulenc's "Mass in G Major," William Byrd's "Mass for Five Voices" and Shakespeare songs by Ralph Vaughan Williams, Frank Martin and Jaakko Mantyjarvi.
