Free meals for veterans: Veterans receive a free lunch or dinner entree at McCormick & Schmick’s Seafood Restaurants and M&S Grill restaurants Sunday, Nov. 9, in tribute to Veterans Day and as a show of thanks. Veterans must show proper identification.

Reservations are strongly recommended. Go to www.McCormickandSchmicks.com and click on Veterans Appreciation Event for participating restaurants. In this area, they include both McCormick & Schmick’s (703-481-6600) and M&S Grill (703-787-7766) restaurants in Reston Town Center. Both open at 11:30 a.m. Also participating is McCormick & Schmick’s in Tysons Corner (8484 Westpark Drive, 703-848-8000), which opens at 5 p.m.

Last year the company served nearly 18,000 veterans nationwide.


French cooking demonstrations, meals: Jacques Haeringer, chef de cuisine of L'Auberge Chez Francois, has announced his fall 2008 cooking demonstration schedule.

Haeringer will share his passion for French cuisine and demonstrate expert cooking techniques. Each demonstration will be followed by a five-course luncheon paired with three fine wines.

Demonstrations are scheduled through Dec. 13. Each takes place on a Saturday and begins at 11 a.m. The schedule is as follows:

  • Nov. 1: Alsatian Hunter's Feast ($100/person)
  • Nov. 7: Seafood Lover's Thanksgiving ($100/person)

  • Dec. 5: Holiday Delights ($125/person)

  • Dec. 13: Champagne Celebration ($140/person)
