VAR graduates


Nineteen Realtors graduated from the Virginia Leadership Academy's class of 2008, after a yearlong training course. Graduates included Vinh H. Nguyen of Westgate Realty Group in Fairfax.


VAR board electees


Trish Szego, of ERA Elite Group in Fairfax, has been elected to the Virginia Association of Realtors Policy Board. The board is responsible for administering the affairs of the association in accordance with its bylaws.


VAR inductees


Virginia Association of Realtor's Virginia Leadership Academy's Class of 2009 includes real estate agent Mario T. Rubio of Rubio Real Estate in Annandale, Patricia Kline of Avery Hess Realtors in Springfield and Danilo Bogdanovic of Market Advantage in Reston.


VAR president named


John L. Powell, vice president and supervising broker of Long and Foster in Colonial Heights, was installed as the 2009 president of the Virginia Association of Realtors last week in Baltimore.

Powell was appointed by Gov. Tim Kaine to the Virginia Foreclosure Prevention Task Force for 2007-2009. He currently serves on the Virginia Housing Commission/Mortgage Finance Regulatory Issues work group.


Winchester Homes


The following nonprofits were honored by Winchester Homes for making a difference in their communities: the Asian Real Estate Association of America, D.C. Metro Chapter; the Center for Help Inc.; Good Shepherd Housing and Family Services Inc.; The William and Lanaea C. Featherstone Foundation; and the Vietnamese American Voters Association Inc.
