Four charged in series of robberies

Police have charged three teenage males and one adult male in a series of robberies that occurred in the Mount Vernon area. The first robbery occurred on July 8 around 2:50 a.m. In that robbery, a teenage male entered the Sunoco gas station, located at 8300 Richmond Highway, and began talking to an employee. Two other teenage males then entered the store wearing bandanas that covered their faces. They produced knives and demanded money. The victim complied and all three suspects fled the store.

Then, on Monday, Sept. 1, two robberies occurred within 90 minutes of each other. Around 12:50 a.m. a man was walking in the area of Buckman Road and Groombridge Way when he was approached by several males. One suspect brandished a gun and used it to strike the victim. The suspects took the victim’s wallet and fled on foot. Shortly after, around 2 a.m., a second robbery occurred near the intersection of Furman Lane and South Kings Highway. The victim was approached from behind by three males, one brandishing a gun. The suspects demanded property from the victim and he complied.

An investigation led police to four individuals. Two teens, 17 and 15-years-old from the Alexandria-area, have petitions pending in all three robberies. Those petitions include three counts of robbery and one count of the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony for each suspect. Dominique Stewart, 20, of 6659 Tower Drive #105 in the Alexandria area, was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center on October 3 and charged with two counts of robbery and one count of the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony for the incidents on September 1. A 16-year-old Alexandria-area boy has been charged with one count of robbery from the July 8 incident. Detectives are looking for a fourth suspect.
