The following is a list of upcoming productions and auditions in the Fairfax-Loudoun area. Productions -'Dog Sees God.' “Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead” by Bert V. Royal will be presented Oct. 9-11 at 8 p.m. and Oct. 11-12 at 2 p.m. at George Mason University's College of Visual and Performing Arts' Black Box Theater, 4400 University Drive in Fairfax.“Dog Sees God” features the “Peanuts” gang as teenagers dealing with difficult issues. The plot centers on the cruelties teens inflict upon each other, as they face drug use, suicide, eating disorders, violence, rebellion and sexual identity. The GMU Players are directed by Patrick Magill.
Tickets are $6; $3 for students, senior citizens and GMU faculty and staff. Free parking is available in adjacent surface lots. Tickets may be purchased at the door one hour prior to the performance. 'Over the River.' Tickets are on sale for the Vienna Theatre Company's production of the comedy “Over the River and Through the Woods” at the Vienna Community Center, 120 Cherry St.
Performances are Oct. 24, Oct. 25, Oct. 27, Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 at 8 p.m., and Oct. 26 and Nov. 2 at 1 p.m.
Tickets are $10, senior citizens 65 and older and students $9.

'Il Trovatore.' George Mason University's Center for the Arts presents The Virginia Opera's production of Verdi's “Il Trovatore” Friday, Oct. 17, at 8 p.m., and Sunday, Oct. 19, at 2 p.m.
The Center for the Arts complex is on the Fairfax campus of George Mason University at the intersection of Braddock Road and Route 123.
Peter Mark conducts his 100th Virginia Opera production.
The production includes new staging by returning stage director Lillian Groag, new set by Michael Ganio and new lighting by Richard Winkler.
Soprano Eilana Lappalainen, tenor Gustavo Lopez Manzitti and two-time Grammy Award-winning baritone Nmon Ford will be returning to the state.
Mezzo-soprano Jeniece Golbourne and bass-baritone Ashraf Sewailam will be making their debuts.

'PetPourri.' Springfield Community Theatre announces the first production in its 2008-2009 season and the premier of a new musical, “PetPourri,” by Andrea Dodds and Deborah Wicks La Puma.
Curtain times are Fridays and Saturdays, Oct. 17-18, Oct. 24-25, Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 at 8 p.m.; and Sunday matinees are at 2 p.m. Oct. 19, Oct. 26 and Nov. 2.
Performances will be held at a new location, The John Swazy Theatre at The New School of Northern Virginia, 9431 Silver King Court in Fairfax.

'New Year's Tale.' The Hub Theatre, a new nonprofit, professional theater company in Reston, announces the reading of “A New Year’s Tale,” an Irish-themed play by local award-winning author and poet Penelope Ann Thoms. Readings are Oct. 23 at 6 p.m. at Greater Reston Arts Center, 12001 Market St. Suite 301, and Oct. 25 at 3 p.m. at the Reston Used Book Shop, 1623 Washington Plaza.
The Hub was founded and managed by Helen Pafumi, Maggie Ulmer and Marey Oakes.

'Forbidden Broadway.' The New York cast of “Forbidden Broadway” goes onstage at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, at The Robert Ames Alden Theatre in the McLean Community Center, 1234 Ingleside Ave. This is a Tony Award-winning roast of Broadway musicals past and present. It features outrageous costumes, hilarious lyrics spoofing Broadway's best songs and madcap impressions of favorite Broadway stars. Tickets are $37, $30 for McLean tax district residents.

Ballet Flamenco Jose Porcel. George Mason University Center for the Arts welcomes back Ballet Flamenco Jose Porcel, Friday, Oct. 31, at 8 p.m., and Saturday, Nov. 1, at 8 p.m. An explosion of rhythms, colors and emotions by Spain’s pre-eminent company of dancers, musicians and singers. A preperformance discussion, free to ticket holders, begins 45 minutes prior to each performance on the Center’s Grand Tier III. This is a family-friendly program.

'Flowers for Algernon.' The Sterling Playmakers announce the cast for their newest stage show, "Flowers for Algernon. "
The plot involves a scientific study involving a man, a mouse and an experiment.
Two scientists (Kevin Robertson, Joe Campanella) have developed a medical procedure that can increase intelligence. The tests have worked on a mouse; now they're ready to try it on a human being. The perfect subject seems to be a mentally challenged man named Charlie Gordon (Justin Fox).
Also in the cast are Sara Bickler, Ellen Cranley, Herbert DuVall, Tina Esfarjani, Corinne Fox, Herb Fuller, David Grimm, S Paul Long, Beth Robertson, Meg Roosma, Scott Ruegg, Ty Sheedlo, Melisande Smith, Terry Smith, Anika Steenstra, Joao Versos, James Wood and Jenny Wood.
"Flowers for Algernon" is based on the short story and novel by Daniel Keyes. It won the Hugo and Nebula awards for science fiction writing. The family-friendly play is produced by James Wood and directed by Terry Nelson DiMurro. Performances are Nov. 7-8 and Nov. 14-5 at 8 p.m., and Nov. 9 and Nov. 16 at 2 p.m. All performances are at the Sterling Middle School on Holly Avenue in Sterling.

Theater anniversary. Springfield Community Theatre will celebrate its 50th anniversary the evening of Friday, Nov. 21, at the Springfield Country Club on Old Keene Mill Road.
This event will provide food, entertainment, pictures and memorabilia from past SCT productions, door prizes and a silent auction.
The cost is $50.

'Trockadero.' “Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo” will be performed Monday, Jan. 26, at 8 p.m. at the The Robert Ames Alden Theatre in the McLean Community Center, 1234 Ingleside Ave. Graceful dancers, tulle, dance shoes and -- is that chest hair?! These "Russian" ballerinas en travesti interpret classical and modern ballets combining a loving knowledge of dance with a wicked comedic sensibility. Wakefield Chorale. The Wakefield Chorale holds open rehearsals Tuesdays, 7:30-9:30 p.m., in lecture hall B-167 of Lake Braddock Secondary School, 9200 Burke Lake Road in Burke. Rehearsals are 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays on the Alexandria campus of Northern Virginia Community College, 3001 N. Beauregard St.
There will be an October performance of Mendelssohn's "Song of Praise," and December performances of David Pinkham's "Christmas Cantata," both with the Washington Metropolitan Philharmonic in venues including the Schlesinger Center in Alexandria.

Master Singers. The Master Singers of Virginia, directed by Erik Reid Jones, are looking for new members.
The group is one of the premier a cappella choral ensembles in Northern Virginia, concentrating on 20th- and 21st-century choral music. The Master Singers perform three major concert programs each season, as well as other engagements throughout Northern Virginia and the greater Washington, D.C., area. This will be the Master Singers' 14th season.
The concert series scheduled for this season includes Benjamin Britten's "A Boy Was Born," Francis Poulenc's "Mass in G Major," William Byrd's "Mass for Five Voices" and Shakespeare songs by Ralph Vaughan Williams, Frank Martin and Jaakko Mantyjarvi.
