Fairfax trails only Loudoun in highest household income

Fairfax and Loudoun households were among the highest paid in the nation last year.

At $107,207, Loudoun's median household income, according to data released Aug. 26 by the Census Bureau, was tops among counties with at least 250,000 residents in 2007. Second, with a median household income of about $105,000, was Fairfax County.

In 2005, Loudoun placed first in the nation with Fairfax coming in second. However, in 2006, the two jurisdictions swapped positions as the nation's two wealthiest counties for their population size.

As a region in 2007, Washington, D.C., trailed only San Jose, Calif., in the nation with a median household income of $83,200.
